Sagittarius 23-24 A Bluebird Standing At The Door Of The House

I recently picked up a second-hand book from a Library sale "Reflections on the Art of Living: A Joseph Campbell Companion" and on page 81 this poem leapt out at me:

"The great problem is bringing life
back into the wasteland
where people live inauthentically."

When we are on our personal development journeys, it can be hard to integrate our new selves (new thoughts, new ways of seeing) back into our 'old' or current lives, that may continue without us while we have been 'in the wild' discovering more inner realms. We go on an adventure, but we must come back, or the adventure is not completed.

According to Joseph Campbell, we have brought back something the world lacks, which is why we went to get it, but the world doesn't know it needs your gift. You can refuse to return, saying "to hell with them" but you haven't finished your adventure, there is unfinished business. Or you can try to sell people what they want, but your expression gets lost and you have renounced your gift. (I find myself doing both - but I view this as an oscillation, part of the refining spiral toward the solution that follows...) Or, Campbell says, you find some aspect of the world that can receive a small portion of what you now have to give, requiring "compassion and patience...Look for cracks in the wall and give only to those who are ready for your jewel."

And this:

"It takes a hell of a lot of courage to return after you've been in the woods."

(Campbell also mentions that rest is a large part of helping to integrate yourself because you need to preserve your own bliss from the wild, even as the world appears crazy.)

To me this symbol (yes, again validated by the Rhetoracle) is about the jewel as a bluebird, living in nature, and coming to the house - the structured society. We don't know if the bluebird is welcome, but it is there, waiting at the dooway between the natural realms and the structured society.
